Food (the right food!) has the power to make us happy! It does come right down to that – food is some powerful stuff. Think about all the levels of how food makes you feel. From those comfort foods that instantly bring you back to your childhood to the foods you would not eat as a child and absolutely adore today. We all have a funny relationship with food – right? When it comes down to it, food’s sole purpose is to provide sustenance and the ability to live in the healthiest way.
Our relationship with food starts from a very young age and really depicts how we approach eating throughout our entire life. Many times, we associate foods we like with a positive experience from our past. And from that experience, we continue eating that same food – even if it is not healthy. Let’s be honest with ourselves – at this stage of our lives, we all know what foods we should and should not have. It’s a matter of those habits we have embedded into our routine and life that become the real bugger. Most of us know that McDonald’s Big Mac with super-sized Fries and a “Diet” soda are NOT good for us. Yet – many keep going back to that drive through. Does this food provide any nutritional value – absolutely not! Yet – sometimes – it seems to nourish the soul (think comfort factor). And this is where the habit change factor becomes a challenge.
It is important to incorporate foods into our diet that not only provide a nutritional punch but also offer that “Feel Good Mood” factor. As we age, we tend to be more in tune to our bodies and how foods affect us. When I have a Superfood Smoothie packed with kale, mango, pineapple, chia, spirulina, hemp seeds, etc. – I feel amazing! It provides a surge of energy and genuinely makes me happy. Maybe you are not a smoothie person. How about a super green’s salad loaded with spinach, kale, sprouts, pumpkin seeds, strawberries and avocado? Eating these foods provides a jolt of energy and a feel good vibe. As opposed to eating a heavy lasagna with meatballs and extra cheese. Don’t get me wrong – lasagna and meatballs taste really good, but the after consumption feeling is not so good. Think sluggish, heavy/weighed down in the belly and not wanting to move. Not ideal for high productivity.
Here are some great “FEEL GOOD MOOD” Foods.
- Spinach
- Lentils
- Dark Chocolate – OH YES!!!
- Water – does the body soooo good!
- Salmon / Fatty Fish
- Brazil Nuts
- Blueberries
- Shiitake Mushrooms
- Avocado
- Raw Nuts

Client Experience/Testimonial: I had a client experiencing awful PMS cramping, so we took a close look at her diet. She was consuming a lot of sugar so before her period came on, she eliminated sugar, gluten and dairy. She also ate very clean – fruits/vegetables/non-gluten grains. That month she had no cramps. And the history over the past year has been heavy cramping each month. Sugar and the other food categories cause inflammation so were definitely fueling the cramps. I will definitely keep tabs on her outcome for the next few months as she continues to adhere to this diet. She said it was very well worth it!
