Patty Pan Squash

 One of the best things about this squash is saying the name over and over – repeating – “Patty Pan Squash, Patty Pan Squash, Patty Pan Squash”. It’s a silly name but have to say, it’s incredibly delicious – similar but better flavor than zucchini. I was introduced to this squash by a friend. And I am delighted about this new addition to my summer rotation of meal side dishes.

It is a summer type squash and also called scallop squash. I think it looks like a ghourd and not something you would eat. Right? That is why I kind of dismissed it when seeing it at the farmers market. And just so you know, this type of squash will likely not be at your local grocery market. It’s a specialty type of squash more commonly found at farm market/produce stands. And you will only find them mid summer. Sadly the season for patty pan is coming to an end.
