Italian Inspired Frittata
Frittata is just a fun and fancy name! I guess you can say, it essentially is an omelet but baked in the oven. Yet what a great way to create a high protein, nutrition packed meal!
Best part, you can have this for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner. A super versatile meal where you can customize the ingredients based on what you have in your refrigerator. Honestly, I wanted to do a sausage version of this recipe. But getting to the store, well, I just didn’t want to head out. Aiming to use the foods I have first before hitting the store. The star of this meal would be the eggs!
“Eggs” & Their Health Benefits:
- Eggs are touted as one of the most nutritious foods in the world.
Excellent source of “Omega 3 Fatty Acids”
Great source of protein – 6 grams in 1 Egg
Raises HDL Cholesterol (the “happy”/good cholesterol)
Contains Choline (most of us don’t get enough of this essential nutrient)
Contain Lutein – great for eye health
Reduce Triglycerides – reducing risk for heart disease

Let’s clear up the confusion on eggs – conventional eggs, organic eggs, pasture-raised, etc. AGH!!! It is confusing, so let’s break it down. (2)Eggducation!
Conventional eggs from the grocery store – hens usually fed grain and likely supplemented with vitamins & minerals
Organic eggs are not treated with hormones. They receive organic feed.
Pastured eggs where chickens can roam free, eat plants & insects along with commercial feed.
*Roaming free outdoors allows more natural vitamin D exposure from the sun. This boosts the D levels.
Free-range gives hen option of going outside
Cage-free simply is not being raised in a cage. Environment may not necessarily be good – think of an overfilled hen house.
Omega-3 Enriched Eggs is a conventional egg where feed is supplemented by an omega-3 food source like flax seeds.
Ideally would be great to find an organic, pasture raised egg. All and all, whether its organic, pasture raised, omega-3 enriched, you are still getting a high amount of nutrition from your egg.
