Tips & Tricks to Quarantine Weight Loss
Have you packed it on during the Stay at Home order? Just realized that summer is just around the corner and now in “gotta fix it” mode? Well here are some really juicy tips on how to start losing the quarantine gain and getting your healthy back on!
- Hydrate – Drink ½ your body weight in ounces of water per day.
- Acts as natural cleanser/detoxifier.
- Keeps everything moving through digestive system.
- Helps satiate you.
- Hungry? Drink a pint of water and reassess.
- Start your day with protein.
- Keeps you full longer.
- Helps reduce cravings and cut calories throughout the day.
- Suggested foods: Eggs / Chia Seeds / Hemp Seeds / Flax / Nuts & Nut Butter
- Fill your diet with high fiber foods. It fills you up! And great for digestive tract.
- Some recommended foods: broccoli, cauliflower, avocado brussels sprouts, blueberries, carrots, chickpeas, bananas, eggplant
- Beat night-time snacking.
- Immediately after dinner brew a nice detox/un-caffeinated tea. Curbs cravings.
- Afterwards – BRUSH YOUR TEETH.
- Tricks the mind that you are done eating for the night.
- Intermittent Fasting
- Start with a natural time of 12 hours – follow the 7:00 am – 7:00 pm eating window.
- Anti-aging
- More time to digest before bedtime.
- Less calories consumed in the eating window.
- Portion Control
- Fix your normal serving size on a plate or bowl. Then transfer ½ of it to a new plate. Eat from one of those plates and asses if you are still hungry.
- Use salad plates rather than dinner platter when preparing your meals.
- Tricks the mind when this plate is filled yet would be less than what you would put on your larger plate.
- Use smaller utensils – salad fork and teaspoon rather than a large soup spoon or fork. Less going in at a time forces you to slow down your eating – realizing you are fuller sooner.
- Slow Down your eating!
- Put your fork/spoon down in between bits. Completely chew & swallow before the next bit. Seems basic but most everyone is shoveling it back in before swallowing.
- Same goes for a sandwich/wrap/hand-held food. Put it down! Check, swallow – then pick up to resume eating.
- Aim for a 20 Minute Meal.
- Helps with reflux when you slow down your eating.
- Satiety sets in sooner and you eat less.
- Digestion rate is increased – making more needed nutrients absorbed into your body.
- Cut back on Sugar in your coffee/tea.
- Slowly reduce the amount you are putting in every day by 25% until you to none.
- Go slow until “zero”.
- Reserve your carbs for earlier in the day – at least a few days a week.
- Save your Veggies and protein for later in the day.
- Allows your body more time to burn off those carbs so they don’t turn into fat.
- Remove the junk food from your point of view and main hub areas of home – ok – the kitchen!
- Out of sight, out of mind – you don’t usually want it until you constantly see it sitting on your counter or first thing in the pantry.
- Strategically place those temptations in a place you are not constantly looking at.
- DO LEAVE THE FRESH FRUIT & VEGGIES OUT TO SEE – More likely to crave and eat these!
- Take a probiotic daily.
- Shown to reduce fat mass.
- Great for gut health & balancing your gut bacteria.
- Strength Train with weights or your own body weight.
- Helps boost metabolism and promotes calories burned throughout the day.
- This is to keep your muscles and bones strong – not necessarily to bulk up. Hugely important as we get older.
- Cut out all sugary drinks. YES!!!
- So many, ok most, drinks out there have a lot of added sugar!
- Wouldn’t you rather eat than drink your calories? Diet drinks are created to be addictive and cause weight gain – it’s no joke and awful.
- Read your labels – this includes non-dairy milks, iced tea, alcohol mixers, etc.

- Reduce Stress
- Consistent Quality Sleep
- Whole Foods / Clean Diet – at least 80% of the time!
